Nice box of gifts came to us from our daughter, who had just hiked the Chilkoot Trail, then returned to Skagway by train & bought & mailed gifts. She went to the PO and requested some stamps, not just a meter strip, to be put on the box. The clerk exclaimed "you're just the person I've been waiting for". He thus proceeded to use a bunch of booklet stamps from the recent lighthouse booklet, explaining that some clerk had taken just a few stamps, leaving partial booklets, which no one would buy. Nice clean Skagway cancels, a few stamps got wrinkled, though. And, got a meter strip to boot.

Those are nice looking cancels and stamps. Your daughter must have the gift of gab to receive such good service!

Nice "cover".

Although I realize the New England Coastal Lighthouse stamps are available nationwide, it has to be something of a curiosity that a stamp featuring the Portland Head, Maine lighthouse is emblazoned with a cancellation from Skagway, Alaska which is a whopping 3,996 miles away from each other (according to Google Maps).

Puzzler: well she does, but it didn't come from her folks.

A couple years tending bar in New Orleans will do that to ya, though.

The Chilkoot is a great experience. I hiked it on a trip to Alaska iin 1996! I still have some of the envelopes I mailed home to my parents. Happy Days :)
