I was going through Dad's Coke collection and came across
some cover he was saving as a part of that collection.

It isn't old at all. Early 1990s. Only about a third of
them are even stamped. The rest are metered. Which I don't
find attractive. However the labeling on the envelopes is
awesome to me. He has cover from several regional Coke
bottlers. Also has CCE and CC USA cover. Some of the metered
mail is canceled with Coke devices too. Just neat stuff.

Also, he has postally unused evelopes from different regional
bottlers, as well as some from the same bottlers, but from
different eras (timeframes), so the designs are different.

Are unused envelopes something that could be considered
cover, or are we getting too far off topic by putting them
in a collection of cover?

I'll post some pics of different designs as I can scan them.

This one is from Sardis Mississippi. This plant is now defunct.
Something like a cancel from a defunt post office. No more
envelopes of this design and address since the 90s.

Next we have the logo of CC USA "Operations" in St Louis.
This one is new to me. I always thought that CC USA was
locate solely in Atlanta. Apparently they have branches.
This one is addressed to a defunct Coke plant.

This one is out of Minnesota. Addressed to Dad at his
Memphis Coke plant.

Funny that the world's largest Coke plant in Atlanta GA
is the one that seemed to stamp the most envelopes vs
using a meter. Most of my stamped envelopes are Atlanta.

Yeah, they're collectible. A cover collector would find them interesting, as might a Coca-Cola collector.

It looks like a great start to a topical collection..or I am sure you can find buyers on ebay..there are folks who collect everything Coca Cola......speaking of defunct places..i have a few covers from post offices in New York State that no longer exist...i think I will try to expand on that..i am sure there are many hundreds of little hamlets that had the one room post office that no longer exists..and it will not be expensive....

Great historical advertising covers!

By all means included the unused advertising covers in your collection! This is commonly done in collections of advertising covers and patriotic covers. For example, collectors of patriotic covers of the American Civil War often include unused examples because they are much less expensive than used ones and more readily available. Some cachet designs are only known as unused examples.

Yeah, Dad was one of them.
I extracted this cover from his Coke collection.
I will probably take more when I get back to it.
He has letterhead from a great many Coke branches
and bottling plants, both corporate and independent.

The Coke collectors are trying to low-ball me on the
value of Dad's Coke stuff, so there is no way I am
giving them the stamp/cover related stuff when they
insist it is worthless. I am trying to sell his Coke
stuff, but it looks like I might be packing it away
and sitting on it if the prospective buyers keep
playing games.

Btw... if anyone is wondering, I took all of the cover,
used and unused, and built a topical album for them
last night. Dad makes heavy use of 3 ring binders for
his stamp collection. So a red 3 ring binder from the
Coke plant seemed a natural place to put all his Coke
cover and related stuff. I put envelopes, letterhead,
and Coke post cards in the binder and installed the
binder with all the other stamp binders.

Since we are keeping the stamps, and liquidating the
Coke stuff (sooner or later), I think he would want
us to put the Coke/stamp/cover stuff in the collection
we were keeping.

IMO it kinda makes it even more 'his' than it was before.

If you take the time to list it on ebay, item by item, you might do well with it, if you want to take the time. Otherwise someone you say is "lowballing" you probably will. Depends on what your time and effort is worth.

I'd sell the Coke stuff on ebay. Then you wouldn't have to worry about low-balling... the people who want it will pay for it!

Agreed. The problem I think ratio is facing that he is being contacted by others who know his dad collected Coke stuff, and now they're swooping in like vultures. I had the same situation happen when my mom died a couple of years ago in regard to her Blue Mountain and other pottery and knicknacks -- and that was from relatives, even. They were offering laughably small amounts for stuff I knew was worth loads more.

I told them I would rather use the stuff for sighting my rifles in at hunting season then to let it go so cheaply. That got them.

People prey on the bereaved if the deceased collected anything interesting.

ebay will maximize your profits, and you will be assured that the winning bidder really appreciates the stuff. Put two or three items on every week, but do your research and put a realistic reserve bid on everything.

By the way, one of the things I got from my mother's place was one of those old-fashioned freezer-type Coke coolers, with the four doors on the top, meant to cool bottles, with detachable containers on the front to receive the caps when you opened your bottle. It'll look nice in my future rec room.

I almost never bid on items with reserves on them. My impression is that most items do much better if you start them at 99c without a reserve.

Well, the sheer volume of stuff had me hoping to find
a single buyer for the lot. That is where I am losing.

I tend to put everything on ebay with a 99 cent start
and no reserve. It can be scary at first, but folks
always start a bidding war sooner or later. I haven't
been bit yet. At least not on anything that truly was
worth more than 99 cents. Low start, no reserve, a week
to bid... You WILL find out what your item is worth!

I tend to stay away from auctions with reserves too.
Also cannot stand auctions that are listed as "NR",
but then they start the bidding high. I absolutely
refuse to bid on one like that.

I always felt ebay should make a rule that if you
do not set a reserve, bidding cannot be started above
99 cents. No matter if the auction is for a paperclip
or a pickup truck. The bid WILL go up if the item is
worth it. Period.
