I am a coin collector wanting to branch out into stamps.
Where do I start?
I will start my collection with only stamps from the U.S.A.
Is there a book or online resource that has pictures of all U.S.A. made stamps?

Hi, Stlspidey

There are tons of resources here on the board, feel free to look around. As to your specific request, a great (and easy to find) guide to the US stamps is the guide the US Postal Service sells, THE POSTAL GUIDE TO US STAMPS. They have a new version every year, so the current one covers stamps through 2012. This guide carries (then) current Scott catalog pricing, the Scott catalog numbers, and all sorts of information about each stamp.

There are many other books available, that I'm sure other members will talk about if prompted that go into more detail on specific areas - but for a good, general guide, this one is tough to beat at the price, usually around $25, and likely easy to find a used copy on ebay or elsewhere for less.

Once again, welcome, and feel free to sit down and stay a spell

Allan

Not sure if they stock it on the ebay store, but I know you can order it from the USPS web site. Happy searching!

Hi and welcome to the group!

When I was first starting out collecting USA stamps, I would get the hardcopy Mystic Stamp catalog.
They sell USA stamps. It was very convientient, but after awhile, I realized that their prices were high compared to other sources of USA stamps. Their service was always good though and it was easy to order from them.
Now they have an online catalog. Here's the link:
http://www.mysticstampcatalog.com/

They mainly show the major Scott #s (Scott catalog is the main USA catalog used in the USA) but for basic beginner level stamp identification, this is a good starting place.

Kind Regards,

Dave N.
