That's long been true, depending entirely on how you define "modern stamps". |

Well, I was born in 1976, so 'modern' means anything after that. :) On a related note, the imperf/no die-cut Inverted Jenny appears sold out now - not available via ebay or USPS anymore, but it's probably worth trying to give them a call to order it. |

I see someone sold a sheet on ebay with the ink bleed similar to what I have and the sheets posted earlier in this thread. I will try to get a few more sheets tomorrow and hope for a good mix maybe a perfect sheet, a really messed up sheet and a right side up one. I'll let you all know what I get. |

I do agree though that this is just like the sports card stuff. Although, my borther and I have been pretty lucky with the few boxes of cards we bought and went through. Maybe I will get lucky and find a really rare stamp. |

I recently bought eight of these sheets and I used them all for postage. It's better than the waves of color $2 stamp. |

I've been on holiday for a month and just read with horror about USPS printing and distributing their Inverted Jenny error with the Jenny flying right side up. wt1 and LondonBus are absolutely correct in their opinions about this smarmy business tactic. First, USPS foisted all those stupid imperfs to drag more dollars out of the collector, and now this. I only hope that Scott, Michel, etal have the common sense to realize that these stamps were never intended for actual postal use. Yes, there will be some collectors, who in an attempt to have something unique, will stick these on an envelope and mail it to themselves. However, in most cases, these labels (I won't dignify these pieces of paper by calling them "stamps") will be placed in safe keeping and never ever be postally used. Jim Farley's Follies pales in comparison with the stupidity of this USPS business ploy. Perhaps it will attract some casual collectors and non-collectors, but will probably enrage many more serious collectors who can tell they're once again getting fleeced by USPS. My best hope is that Scott treats these as they have been handling the stupid US commemorative imperfs - simply provide these items with a footnote comment and no specific catalog number or suffix. Sadly, I'll be quitting this ever increasingly difficult chase for current US postal issues. It's clearly too frustrating to bother wasting time on when USPS repeatedly changes the rules. 2013 will be my last year. So much for USPS' attempt to increase collectors' interest. They just lost me. |

Scott has already stated that they won't assign a catalog number to the "error." I think that is ridiculous.
Overall, I think the error is a clever marketing gimmick, even if it's a tad unfair to stamp collectors. I think they should have made more than they did, however, to give us all a fighting chance to get our hands on one. |

Scott will have to issue a number and a value needs to be assigned. What do you think the value should be? Tom |

It is my understanding that Scott has already rejected the idea of giving this right-side-up Jenny Reprint a Scott number. It will, however, be included as a footnote, possibly with a value.
As to value, the question is wide open until we see how secondary market sales occur. The other question is whether most people will keep the stamps intact or if they will try and separately market each individual stamp from the Souvenir Sheet of 6, presumably to realize a greater financial return. This would, of course, create up to 600 collectible stamps, instead of just 100 souvenir sheets. |

Even if they are broken up, a figure of 600 items for all the serious and casual collectors in the world are extremely poor odds. Since there were only one hundred of the original C3a (we all know that those are well beyond our wildest dreams to ever own) and now there are only 600 of these, the individual cost of the new errored "pieces of paper" will probably climb to four digits very rapidly. I'd be willing to bet that none of the members of SCF will ever be lucky enough to possess a single copy. Sorry, but I get angrier and angrier every time I think about this scam. |

Quote: Scott will have to issue a number and a value needs to be assigned. What do you think the value should be? Tom They will definitely not give a number. They have stated so publicly. Which still boggles my mind, since they have no issue giving numbers to the Looney Tunes imperfs or the Bill Pickett error. Sigh... |

Personally I think it is the best thing they can do since it was an intentional money marketing plan. It was not an actual error and was only printed in a limited amount. I would like to see them not repeat this type of marketing in the future.
Let it happen natural by mistake.
IMHO they should make another run and get rid of just the special 600 inverted inverts by overloading the numbers. |

I have seen some people selling red wing tip Jenny Stamps and some other errors mostly on imperf stamps but the red wing tip is on some of the regular stamps. My 2 sets have the red wing tips and the ink smearing.
I have yet to see anyone list them with missing ink in the arch like the ones I have. I might try one of my sets to see if there is any interest in it. Especially since it has the red wing tip & ink smears too. I am guessing I could get a few more from the post office that will be the same because both I got looked exactly the same. |
