Has there been anything official from the government about this release after the fact? Tom |

What do you mean by "anything official from the government about this release"? Are you referring to the multitude of varieties (i.e. flat tires, poorly printed frames, etc.)? If so, then no, there is no release. It's just a matter of poor quality control and the finds will likely have limited value. The secondary market will determine if there's demand for such things, but typically they don't usually command that high of a price. |

Thank you so much. That answers my question. I received an envelope yesterday that used the jenny for part of the postage so I have my first used one. Tom |

Buying sheets to get one that is printed right side up is playing the lottery and in a way the government is promoting gambling. Tom

I disagree with you sdTom, In gambling you don't get to use what you spend your money on. With stamps they can be used for mail so there is no loss. |

sdTom, Also there is not going to be an announcement from the post office about varieties. The same with coins, the government does not make announcements about different varieties. That is what collectors are for. They find these things and point them out to others. After a year or 2 it will become more clear what is collectible but from what I see the flat tire variey appears to be the rarest of the varieties so far other than the right side up plane. |

Anybody going to look for those rare Harry Potter error stamps? Complete U.S. collections will need them - any bets, over/under, on how many days 'til they "magically" pop up on the radar? K |

I bet the day they go on sell there will be one listed. There are errors in all stamps. They just have to be identified. It would be cool if there was a collector book of stamp errors/varieties. |

O.K. - You are the under at day zero. Of course you could still lose if they report errors before the stamps go on sale... K |

I inadvertently posted questions in this thread about the Harry Potter stamps. I've now posted them in the correct thread, so I'm deleting it here. (Sorry.) |

Re: The 2013 $2 Jennys. I went to the post office yesterday to buy some (to use as postage, actually)and the clerk said she had to check to see if they had any. (They did.) I asked if the stamps had been such a hot seller that they could have been sold out .. or maybe, as the Postal Service sometimes does, they had not stocked many. The answer was "Neither. No one was buying any so our manager was going to ship them all back to headquarters." ..
Nice going post office - re-create a wonderful old stamp and screw it up with that goofy rate!!
On the other hand, the same post office had sold out of Harry Potter pretty quickly. |

You have an excellent point that I hadn't considered but for me to have more than a few of the stamps to use for postage would last me for a long time. I guess if you mailed out a lot of material that required $2.00+ in postage it makes sense. Tom |

Had an interesting experience at the post office yesterday mailing a package. I had inadvertently gotten a tiny piece of packing tape on one of the stamps (CD Mailer). When I mean tiny I mean the tape was on the perforations only. The other 3 stamps were fine but the clerk said the postage has to be replaced. I could understand if I had covered up all of them with tape but this. Is this paying attention to too much detail? We're talking about a 4 cent stamp by the way. Tom |

Lots of people sell on ebay and on the internet these days all over the country. Most of them will spend $2 or more for their First Class Packages. These stamps are ideal for packages. I truly just like the look of them and feel they will hold their value on that merit alone. In fact I seen one cancelled stamp sell for $11.50 on ebay so they might even be worth more than face in a few years. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Scott-4806-...047675.l2557The reason the PO would not accept it is because they are suppose to make sure it is cancelled and they are told to reject any with tape over the postage. It has happened to me too. At least it was just a 4 cent stamp and was easily fixable. |
