A friend is reporting a white void (about 1 mm in diameter) in the upper right corner of the red on the upper center pane (I think it is supposed to be on the first stamp, but my notes are a bit vague).

Please share all of the photos of the different varieties in this one thread. The open A is quite interesting.

There is a "flat tire" on ebay this second, 9 hrs to go, 42 bids, at $98.

In the old days, such varieties were a LOT less common... it seems to me either A) the USPS has forgotten how to print quality intaglio stamps B) they purposely allowed imperfect sheets to pass quality control C) everyone is getting on the bandwagon and making common flaws into $$.

I have seen plenty of common, low value US engraved stamps with one color ink getting into the wrong places, and they are not worth a premium. So why are these?

Time will tell if any of these stamps hold their perceived values.

BUT, you will ALSO note, how much interest all these "flaws" have created. Even though we collectors keep saying how bad this USPS marketing ploy is! :-) :-)

We don't actually know how much interest these flaws have created, posters in a forum like this is really very small group, and may not indicate a significantly larger interest.

Partime - It is not a plate number. Not sure if it is just a sloppy print, or a scratch/ding on the plate.

Thanks eyeonwall. I thought so. Yes, a very messed up series, and it appears that the USPS either doesn't care, or they have a new Marketing Department that realizes that errors = Sales to some groups.

My guess on future values of these stamps ... Face Value, at best.

I spend too much time in the philatelic community to even pretend to think that is true.

The flat tire variety that just sold on ebay was mine. As soon as I saw the bidding take off, I went back and looked at the other sheets I have and saw that those with upc code 58004 on the plastic wrapper all include 3 of the flat tire variety on the SS sheet (all bottom positions)

For all the bids, it was really only two people bidding.

It does look like the Broken Wheel or Flat Tire "Variety" has a following on ebay. There are also several other inking errors that are being called out but I don't see any with bids on them.

Here's a scan of the flat tire variety. I also just saw yesterday in my own mail an example of a red tire variety. Maybe I can post that later.

Here is a scan of a photocopy of the white void in the upper right coner of the first stamp in the upper center pane. My friend reports finding it in this position on both press sheets (die cut and no die cut) and post office panes, so it must be a constant plate variety.
