This thread is to capture information dealing specifically with the right side up Jenny of which 100 examples were randomly inserted, intentionally, into the available supplying 2 million sheets printed by the USPS.

I am wondering have any new discoveries been reported? Any guesses how many of the 100 might go unsold and destroyed along with the unsold supply of normal sheets?

Also, what are the special inserts that come with the right side up variety that USPS put in the package to signify the special printing? Note I use the term "special printing" here instead of an error or variety, because that is what I think it is. I have heard there is a "blue seal" from an ebay listing. Also a letter insert informing the lucky recipient to notify USPS to get a certificate of some sort from the Postmaster General.

Much thanks!

According to this Washington Post news article from 10/28/2013, only TWO of the Jenny "unverts" have been reported to date ... 98 left out there still to be found:

Here's an article suggesting that "Stamp Collectors Not Impressed by Inverted Jenny Invert":

http://postalnews.com/postalnewsblo...enny-invert/

The article in question is referring to that which was written by Scott Stamp Catalog Editor, Charles Snee. The full article is available for reading on Linn's Stamp News website (for one week, I understand) at this link:

http://www.linns.com/features/opena...enalbum.aspx

And, in my opinion, the article includes this excellent quote:

Quote:
The irony as I see it is that collectors likely would fare much better if the Postal Service stopped trying to figure out what collectors want and focused on producing attractive stamps that reflect the greatness of our nation.

One possible consequence of the upright Jenny lottery has been that a few people are being enticed to buy huge lots of the Jenny sheets from the USPS in hope of finding the upright sheet, and auction off the rest on ebay in bundles of 12, 18, 24 etc. sheets (most of these bundles ended up being sold at close to face value). In effect, these people managed to reduce the $12 lottery ticket to mere cents.

The mystery remains who are the idiots who actually bought the Jenny bundles on ebay.

The idiots as you call them are more likely very smart and picking up errors that these whole sellers would never notice.

For about the same price you can buy as many sheets as you want directly from the USPS in unopened packets, with the added benefit of getting lucky in snatching a right-side up sheet. Why would one with smarts go buy from an ebay seller with all the sheets opened and handled?

As far as varieties go, the print control on these sheets are so bad that one has a much better chance of picking up a flawed sheet randomly than a perfect sheet.

I have so far opened 6 packets in total, and every sheet has stamps that contain some sort of flaws (over-inking, under inking, missing ink, red wheel, truncated wing tip, etc.).

did you buy all 6 packets from the same post office? I bought one packet and it was nice, no over inking etc. Try buying them at different locations.

Yes, all from the same post office.

Are you sure your sheet is really flawless? You should look carefully at each stamp under a magnifier. If the sheet is indeed flawless, then I'd say you've hit the jackpot. Your sheet should become more valuable over time.

Not yet. But as of today, one stamp dealer has already announced their being willing to pay $15,000 for the souvenir sheet with the right-side-up airplane ... if you're (a) lucky enough to find one; and (b) think it's a good enough offer:
