Scott 756-755 - Pairs with "socked on the nose cancels ". The dated of March 15, 1935 is correct for first day issued but the city should be Washington D.C. . This is why these stamps are considered SON (s). |

These are examples of 740 & 749 FDC with the Department of Interior shield as a cachet . Scott 740-49 represent 10 stamps which have FDC cancellations at there respective national parks as well as Washington DC . This means this specific cacheted cover has 40 possible varieties taking into account that single and blocks exist . Single & Blocks -- 20 Two FDC cancellations ---- 20 I guess you guys get the flavor of this collection . |

Quote: This means this specific cacheted cover has 40 possible varieties taking into account that single and blocks exist . The variety of items available for these series seems a bit overwhelming at times. Just for the 34 series alone I started out with a mint set and a used set. Then I just had to have the same thing in blocks of four. Then a plate block or two for each. And finally a FDC for each. The 1935 run gets even more fun with the pairs, line pairs, center line blocks, arrow blocks, etc. This may never end! I like that you've taken the time to do some write ups. I feel inspired to do something similar. |

Cool! What a great collection. I love how you've put it all together. I am collecting the different varieties of all the 'Farley's Follies'. There are many varieties of blocks, pairs etc. to be found. I haven't even started on covers yet. |

Thanks for the kind comments. The varieties can be overwhelming to collect . The most interesting material I have come across was created and serviced by collectors. It gives you a window into the philatelic mind . I will post a few pictures of the Dr. Sommer covers collection. |

You have inspired me to gather together my National Parks issues into a collection of their own. I think this is going to be lots of fun |

Yes, those are well thought out covers. This is right about where my US collection ends, but I definitely include these sets. I enjoy all the possibilities. I see many ebay sellers offer vertical OR horizontal pairs. My pairs are mixed, with the vertical stamps side by side, and horizontal top and bottom. I like the more uniform look. I'd like to know how others collect these, with all the varieties to chose from out there. Makes me glad I'm not a completest. |
