Hi all,
Just a quick intro to say hi to everyone. My name is Dan and I started collecting in the late 80s with my mother who used to bring me along with her to stamp club meetings in a church basement until the early 90s. I had a pretty nice used album back then with a few mints and tons of covers, but eventually would come to sell my collection around 2000 to pay bills and such.
So fast forward to a few months ago and my 10 year old daughter was handed a bag of stamps on paper by 'grand-ma' and with my daughter knowing somehow that I used to collect stamps, asked if I could help her start to collect. I bought her a small lighthouse stock book and an old Scott catalog at a local spot here in Montreal and we soaked her stamps and I watched her get completely bit by the stamp bug. We worked all weekend on her collection and the following week I bought more stock books, sheet holders and all kinds of other supplies and there's been no going back lol!
So now she's going pretty strong with her used collection (at this point it's more about quantity lol!) and I'm slowly building a new MNH collection although I pick up a few VF used here and there to place-hold the more expensive stamps. I bought a small box lot for my daughter a month ago and she just LOVES to sit for hours and dig through it.
So now I am on the hunt for a Lighthouse hingeless Canada album vol 1. I am by no means a rich fella, so I am hoping to find a good deal on a gently used album. I would also be willing to look at other volumes, but my priority right now is for a vol 1 to protect my older MNH collection. If anyone has any leads on one, I would really appreciate the heads up.
Thanks and nice to meet everyone! Dan

Hi Dan, Welcome. You sure have come to the right place. I remember when that "bug" bit me, I'll tell ya. It keeps biting all day long too. Glad to see the younger generation getting into a special hobby. It gives great deal of Beauty, History, Companionship and last but not least Patience. I just purchase a bunch of vizio 8 x 11's to put all my MNH into until I can get nice albums. I have many 3 ring binders I have found here and there and put the vizios in those. Catch ya out there...Gary |

@Gar - Yes that's what I've been doing actually... I have the 3S sheets and I just keep the stamps in the selling cards and place the card in the sheet when they're worth more than say $20 on the market :) Needless to say I don't have many lol! Couple of jubs and my 158 all VFMNH. Just picked up a gorgeous 46 last night on the high end side, wondering if I should get it certified. |

Hi JR1960, I used to have my kids sort for me. A,B,C, etc. I gave a buck each for the help. I could have got in trouble for child labor. Only 1 out of the 5 kids still does stamps. The others are married and have other interests. But it sure was a good way to sort ...Gary |

Hello Faken and welcome! It's nice to hear that your daughter has been bitten by the stamp bug! I have 2 boys, ages 8 and 10, who are also hooked. When you reach 50 posts, we would love to send your daughter some stamps. You'll have to let me know what she collects. Also, do you know about the American Topical Association's website for kids? There are free activities and album pages to print. Here's the link: http://www.americantopicalassn.org/Kind regards, Aimee |

Hi Dan and welcome to SCF. The times you are spending with your Daughter will be cherished with her forever. I know because My parents did it with me starting when I was about 13 years old. The memories are still with me as well as My first real album. I'm now 68 years old. |
