Good job on the page! It sounds like a good guess to me as far as tagging is concerned. Satisfies me anyway.

Not to hijack this thread, but for anyone who wants to get ahead of the game, the Star Spangled Banner Fireworks and Flag Stamp of 2014, as issued earlier this year (01/28/2014) in CB20 (APU) and Coils (APU) and (CCL) varieties, will have a number of other varieties, too, as it has been announced that further issues will be issued next month (03/03/2014) in CB20 and Coils, both of those varieties by printer (SSP). It is also interesting to note that the Technical Specs for the Star Spangled Banner Booklet and Coil as issued on 01/28/2013 (as per the 01/23/2014 Postal Bulletin) the (APU) varieties are printed in 4-colors; whereas the Coil (CCL) variety only is printed in 5-colors (added: 665 Purple). Also, the CB20 and Coils (APU) have microprinting whereas the other Coil (CCL) does not. And I guess we just wait and see if the USPS decides to issue an ATM18 or CB10 of the stamps later on in the year. Yet more confusion to the myriad of similar but different varieties of a stamp.

apastuszak, that page is a pleasure to look at.
Thanks for showing it.

I haven't bought any US stamps for around 40 years but those
do have some appeal.

One question though, why such high print numbers?

The USPS Postal Bulletin of April 13, 2013 states that Ashton Potter,
Avery Dennison and Banknote Corporation (Sennett Security Printers) each printed 1 Billion coil stamps

In addition Ashton Potter and Banknote Corporation each printed another
1 billion in booklets, which totals Five billion stamps

Wow that's a lot of stamps when hardly anybody mails letters
anymore.

One more thing. Since I don't have these stamps and can't compare.

Is there a noticeable difference at first look between the
offset printed ones from AP and Banknote and the photogravure
by Avery?

One has to put in perspective the fact that definitive stamps are typically issued in the billions for every issue over the past several years and according to the just released USPS 2014 Postal Facts 22.3 billion stamps were printed in 2013, with 20.1 billion stamps actually sold during that same time.

Thanks for the link wt1.

So 20 billion US stamps sold in 2013.

Ignoring the fact that not all of these where first class
domestic and not all sold where actually used on mail,
it still works out to approx 6 letters per man, woman and child in the
good old USA.
Amazing.
I didn't think the volume was still that high.
