I would think that for a known certifier/expertizer, the one thing that is as good as gold is their reputation. If enough people get the word out that a certain certifier is inaccurate in its assessments, then I would think that their business would dry up. I think that in this instance it would be good to have PSE respond to this issue as there are 2 sides to every story and it may have been an honest mistake and not negligence or even fraud. Today's internet is full of mob justice stories that end up to be wrong or based on false information.

I might add to this by saying that certs are a MUST for those of us who are color-impaired!

Perhaps send the stamp and the cert back to PSE and ask them to explain?

In their defense, having to certify all of those Superb and Gem 3c and 4c stamps from the 1940s and 50s doesn't leave much time for them to focus on any one item...

So much of it flooded the market a few years ago it made me wonder if PSE was just cranking them out themselves to drum up business. If not, there sure were a LOT of dealers sending in both not very well centered AND 'newer' stamps.

Also keep in mind that the Stamp in question is one of the most difficult studies in US stamps. Not defending anyone, just saying....

Thanks to information Ray Mac has posted on this forum, I just learned how to ID the one cent Franklins in the last few months. Yes, it's a complex issue, but even I could tell this isn't a 24. All you have to do is look at the top and bottom lines. Even though the perfs cut into it, the bottom line is obviously more complete than any of the 24 reliefs.

The first thing I noticed was how complete the upper right design is. If there's a 24 Va that complete, I haven't seen it...

It seems like this expert was more concerned with the numerous flaws...

As I have read on these so called expertized/certifying companies web sites there are more than one person that looks at each stamp that comes thru before the name goes out. So if this is so how could that many people(I think is at least 3) how could it get(a stamp) missed represented. One would think that one person would have caught it. Does not look good for the companies PSE PSAG ect....... How is it that you gurus can catch this and the PROFESSIONALS miss it. So much for sending my stamps out to PSE. Hello Bill Weiss or this wonderful forum we have here that is loaded with stamp gurus.
