Thoughts On Sell Price For This E3

Sometimes those with too much money to burn usually end up getting burned themselves by overpaying for something. I have over payed for stamps when I didn't take my time looking around for the same stamp and jumped the gun into buying the first one that I saw. This can happen in ebay when you see a lot of people bidding for a stamp and no one is interested in the same stamp that someone else has at a comparable or lower price. Shopping around can help go a long way into making a reasonable purchase rather than an impulsive one that one regrets.

Quite the opposite....The item like the one being discussed is for the MORE ADVANCED collector.
Everyone can own a #E3.....not everyone can own a #E3 with this high of a grade.

I suppose it really depends on whether you think the huge difference in price is worth the equal, or very near equal, margins. I don't.

PJ... well stated... many of us are aboard your train... I've said for years that it was grading which killed sportscard collecting, and that grading stamps would do the same... well, the handwriting is on the wall, the paint is peeling, and the drywall has plenty of cracks and holes...

Personally, grading does nothing for me except prompt me to skip looking at the item in question. When looking for a stamp to fill a space, I look for something that pleasing to "my" eye. Sometimes that's a mint copy, or a cool looking cancel. I either like the way It looks or I dont. I may be weird with this thought - I look at the price first, then the stamp.
I have to be able to pay for it.

Clearly a very nice stamp in condition difficult to obtain for a well over 100 year old stamp. Great centering, Mint NH and sound condition, with certificates. My take is that this is not a stamp for most collectors, but for those that are looking for a very well-centered sound mint NH, I don't think 10x the VF price is unreasonable. As with many other collectibles, it's condition-condition-condition (which includes centering).

That's the great thing about collecting - anyone can collect what they want. You can get this stamp in Mint NH condition and sound for less than 10% of VF catalog value if you want (off-centered, of course), or you may want to buy a OG hinged stamp, or an unused stamp that looks great on the front, but may have problems on the back - you can probable find these other cases at less than 10% of catalog too.

I wouldn't, though, cast aspersions at those that DO want the 10x example, even if it's NOT graded, better quality stamps tend to hold their market value (please don't mistake this comment to be meant as an investment, it's not).

It is a better investment than a off-center example for <10%cv
