I'm a bit confused 1213a is listed as a booklet, so what would 1 stamp from one of these booklets be listed as?

In short- it's not. you'd still write it in like the booklet pane but mark, of course, single after it. The catalog only lists the entire pane. Hope this helps a bit?

Scott 1213 was issued both in pane & booklet format. When there is no discernible difference between the pane & booklet versions of an issue (other than possibly one or more straight edges), Scott does not assign separate catalogue numbers to the two stamps. But they do assign minor catalogue numbers to booklet panes. Collectors will frequently refer to a stamp from a booklet pane using the booklet catalogue number, but, in fact, both the pane & booklet catalogue numbers are technically Scott #1213. Note that the tagged variety is assigned Scott #1213b. This stamp can also be from a pane or from a booklet. The tagged booklet pane is assigned Scott #1213c.

My US collection isn't advanced enough to need a Scott Specialized, but might it list booklet singles separately? The Unitrade Canada specialized catalogue does that, with an "s" minor number. Using this particular stamp as an example, in Unitrade it would be listed as 1213as.

If Scott does nothing in the specialized catalogue, then it's just another 1213, although you probably should save it separately with a note of some sort to distinguish it from the sheet single.

Unfortunately, no, not even in the Scott specialized catalogue. If a stamp has both pane & booklet varieties, Scott assigns the booklet stamp a different number only if there are "significant" differences (perf gauge, size, tagging, etc.). Having a straight edge or two or three doesn't qualify as "significant".
