First question I would ask are you interested in the collecting aspect or selling part. As for collecting I would first recommend a set of catalogs to begin. Next you have already found a great place to ask any type of question for stamp collecting right here. You sound like already for a new person to the hobby that you have a great start that some wish they had. Hopefully you will be interested in sticking with it as no matter how long you collect there are always new venues to the hobby. Finally, Welcome To SCF. |

A good place to look at a catalog is your local library in the reference/hobby section. Stamps are a great way to learn. |

Besides being in great company right here, is there a stamp club in your area that you could hook up with? |

Welcome.
Constructive criticism: Punctuation and capitalization are your friend. It's hard to follow your thoughts when they are in one uber-long sentence.
You also get more response to your thread when the title contains more than just "???".
Just something to ponder... |

to the SCF! It sounds like you have a fantastic start to a quality collection. Collecting dust is OK! You just have to decide if you want to collect or sell. |

Hi Tina, You certainly have a lot of stamps and probably many questions. I saw on another of your posts that you are in the Sacramento, CA area. You can get a lot of assistance in real time at the weekly meetings of the Sacramento Philatelic Society. They meet every Wed. night from 7 pm to 9 pm at the Easter Seals campus on Hurley Way between Watt and Fulton Avenues. I know many people there would be happy to help you determine what you have and do their best to answer your questions. If you want more information, please feel free to contact me directly and I'll help as best I can.

Sorry folks for the double posting of my response. First one got hung up in cyberspace temporarily I guess. Then the both appeared together. Just the trials of a forum newbie I guess.

Tina, I do live near Sacramento in Carmichael. I'm not that knowledgeable about many categories of stamps so I think the Sacramento Philatelic Society would be a good place to start. If you'd like, I could make sure someone would be available to look at some of your albums. I don't think you need to bring all 45 though. If you'd like you can contact me directly by clicking on the link under my name and it will take you to my profile and you'll find a button to send me a direct e-mail and we could set something up for you there. Tina, Just to second Peter, Sacramento has a nice stamp club. I used to live near there and was a member for a couple of years. Stamps are a great way to learn geography and history since they often deal with both. Have fun with your collection! |
