Hi Jopie

Sorry about the newbie question. Do you mean any of the stamps that say Europa on them. I have notices a few countries in my collection, if so I will start keeping an eye out for you.

Dianne

For all you uninformed: The "Europa" stamps are the ones that were issued since 1956 with the united Europa in mind-- since 1959 theywill have the CEPT logo on them-- and that stopped again in 1992. The Sympathy issues are all the stamps that have bearing on the idea (ideal) of a United Europa--- they are the stamps already issued since WWII and all european championships from those days- and 1000 more ... I have been collecting since 1990 and have quite a bit of it. Of course, I like my wind/watermills more!

I've never considered Sympathy issues but have been seriously considering doing a Europa topical collection. I particulary like the latter 'thematic' years that followed the 'common design' years. I just don't know that I'm ready to bite off another specialty but...if I have someone to play with... who can tell

Regarding the 'europa' topic-- here are 3 stamps: #1 is a Greek 'forerunner' (before 1956) the 2nd stamps is a true 'europa' one and the third is a sympathy issue. Sympathies are also: NAto, EFTA, Nordic issues, Benelux, Council of Europe, etc. If yopu would start a collection now I would advise to start with used, the mint are very expensive!

Is a Canadian NATO stamp considered a sympathy issue? Canada and the United States are the only two non-European countries in NATO.

David, if you collect just Nato stamps & overs & cancels-- you would of course include Canada & USA -- otherwise you don't have to but since the total NAto is (perhaps) conductive to European Unity they are included in my albums. I may not agree woth Nato but do like the stamps.
