Still going through my kiloware. This one stood out. The "1" in both 1792 and 1992 is almost gone. Not scrapped off (from the cancelling device), but just very, very faint.

Interesting variety. I think it has good resale value. If the ones were completely missing, it would be worth its weight in gold! Wait. How much does this stamp weigh?

Well, conventional wisdom is that a single stamp is less than 1 gram ... probably about 0.8 grams. The current price of gold is about US $46 per gram. So, a typical postage stamp is probably about (rounded) US $35 its weight in gold. I'll take it ...

Anyone out there with a similar "missing 1" variety?

My copy of this stamp looks exactly like the one posted by the OP. May be the partially missing digit is quite common?

I don't have a copy of any with partially missing digits, but I do have one that shows the words "The White House" with "The" almost all in red:

That could possibly make it a listed variety someday. Though, as pointed out by Classic Coins, a better example would not have any 1's. Thanks for the confirmation.

Partime: There also appears to be a 'red'shift' on the field. Another thing, could this be a 'black' color missing or was the lettering blue not black as perceived against wt1 example???

A very interesting article on this stamp can be found at www.usastamps.com/Richard.Nazar.html This stamp is known to have lots of varieties! Go to the article: "What color is the White House?".

Petert4522. Thanks for the very interesting link. The picture in the article looks exactly the same as my example, but there is no mention of the missing "1"s. Very odd, but, again, a great read.
