I have lots of stamps that are loose and why do some of them look brand new with gummy still on the back but it has been canceled that is correct term right? looks like its been mailed but its new
Tina, these are called canceled to order, or CTO. They are canceled as sheets and sold this way for the collector market... usually for beginners. Some don't like them, others don't mind.
Depending on the stamp, some used stamps are actually worth more than mint or unused stamps. However, CTO stamps are probably always worth less, and though they catalog the same as postally used copies that went through the mail, some collectors feel CTO's are not worth as much as a genuinely postally used copy.
