Mystic stamp is offering for me to buy 2013 Imperforate Stamps. I have never heard of these. Does anyone collect these? Are they worth a persons time to collect these? Are these the new "in" stamps to collect? For 7 stamps they want $15.60 The stamps are Johnny Cash, West Virginia Statehood and New England Coastal Lighthouses - The lighthouses are all attached. What do you all think?

Well, as with any part of stamp collecting, if YOU like them, then collect them. It's really that simple. I don't collect US stamps and I don't know enough about the market for these stamps to say if they're a good buy at today's prices or not. It's fairly likely that you can find the same stamps at a lower price than Mystic, however, so you might want to look around a bit, perhaps on ebay or some other dealer who sells newer US stamps. However, Mystic is a good company and if you like doing business with them than that's fine, too. |

I do collect US, but with new issues, only the ones I like, mainly due to having to buy sheets, or blocks. Unless I walk into my PO. The market on New US is not great. If you happen to have an Upright $2 Jenny.... Then the market is GREAT! Fat chance on that one. I wont buy Imperfs, as I only save one corner and use the rest for postage. Mind you, I have alot of extra postage laying around...LOL In any case, I wouldn't buy it from Mystic. They have about the highest price in town.
What TheArtfulHinger said, too. |

Not for me either. I collect early US and would save the $15.60 to put towards something more appealing to me.

I for one have to have them. Unfortunately I can't just have one , I get a full pane or booklet. What really ticks me off is that the U.S.P.S. only sells the sheet version in full uncut sheets. I don't need that many stamps so I buy the imperf panes on ebay. Fortunately there are a couple of vendors who sell these at a modest markup. But I don't like paying over face for new issues. |

carahop: to answer your question.. These imperfs are newly issued within the last (2-3 years??) and are issued only in press sheets. Mystic has purchased a considerable # and are breaking up the sheets to sell as singles, blocks or single sheets. Their offer would be a frugal manner(??) (other than ebay or stamp show)source to purchase. I look at these at times and consider hard the value of the stamp versus the asking price. They are not errors, but issued in sheets of multiple panes. The USPS issues these large sheets (press sheets) with perforations as well. Mystic has just marketed the imperfs in a manner to attract collectors who do not desire the entire press sheet but a single or smaller #. |

I also do not collect modern US stamps so wouldn't be interested in imperf or perfed varieties. However, I do collect imperfs from other countries, Hungary, for example, but mostly early issues.
I consider collecting imperf varieties as more of a specialization, particularly because many of these imperfs, especially the modern US, are products geared towards collectors. When just starting out I was not interested in them (maybe not even aware of them), but I reached the point where I wanted to expand my collection to include varieties of all kinds. |

Quote: I think quigngt collects these imperf recent issues? Maybe wait for him to chime in. Yes I do, but preferably only in pairs. These are about the only modern US stamps that I care to have. I did buy a few early on in this new rage of collecting US imperforates but values dropped considerably within 2 years or so in most issues. So, I am in no hurry to buy new issues and actually prefer used pairs canceled near the date of issue. I would also recommend not buying from Mystic unless you don't mind paying the high price for matters of connivence and Mystic's excellent reputation for customer satisfaction. |

I have every single imperf press sheet in my collection, and plan to continue collecting such sheets. This is admittedly an expensive proposition, but some press sheets in imperf form (such as the recent Circus sheet) are really beautiful to look at.
Mystic has some of the worse markup margins around. However, if you are looking for just singles or blocks, ordering from them is convenient and reliable, which compensates for their high margins. |

Thank you all for the opinions and info. I did send these back today and figured if I wanted to buy them in the future it would still be an option. |

One thing is sure; Mystic will have them if anyone will. I went back and forth about the US Flag over the porch series for a long time. I finally figured that I would find them all in VF Used or better eventually. |
