I am not convinced that the marks in the UL corner of my stamp are definitely plate scratches. In Lester G. Brookman's book, "The United States Postage Stamps of the 19th Century"....Volume 2,1966,on the Scott 65 he does mention that there was one with a double transfer in the UL corner. Could this be the one? |

A transfer will come from the design of the stamp....thus causing a "double" transfer. This is 1000% a plate scratch....nothing more.

A double impression is the doubling of the design itself, not markings outside the normal design of the stamp. Also, double impressions have a catalog value of $6.50 in my 2008 specialized catalog. |

I do appreciate your opinions, but I have learned from previous posts that at times people are absolutely sure that they are correct on their point of view sometimes to be proven wrong. Thank-you all for your time and opinions. |

$150? nope. Not in this lifetime.
This is a plate scratch, if it was a double transfer it would show doubling of the design. A double transfer is what happens when the transfer die roll is entered twice/incorrectly/shifted etc.
Since what you're seeing was NOT on the transfer die this is nothing more than a scratch on the plate. |

You purport the stamp to be a rarity when selling it, but admit complete ignorance regarding what it is you have. This is the definition of dishonesty.
My advice would be that if you are so sure it is something valuable, get it expertised, then relist it with an image of the certificate of expertisation.

Coinwatcher, some countries are fly-specked for varieties and some of the varieties can sell for higher prices. The US is not one of those countries and when you consider that stamp printing in the 1800's was hardly refined one can find little things like your 2 lines on a plethora of stamps. Take for example the Columbian broken hat variety, it catalogs for about 2 bucks more. Scott doesn't recognize little things like this for a reason. I would step back and think of the reputation you will soon have in the community if things like this continue, your asking price is simply absurd, it's a dollar or 2 item tops. |

As I said earlier in the post..."The U.S.P.C.S. says on their website,"Plate varieties, such as double transfers and cracks are difficult to find because the National Bank Note Co. performed high quality work, but a few examples can be found with a good magnifying glass and a lot of patience. Printing varieties are also uncommon, but the occasional smear or short printing can be found." I am assuming from this statement that plate scratches would also be difficult to find."....or rare. I am not being dishonest as I represent the stamp as "lines in UL corner" because I am not an expert. My feedback is 100% because I do not mis-represent any item and deliver exactly what I show. I leave it to the buyer to determine if they are willing to pay my starting price. Since the Scott 65's have not been extensively studied who knows, this may be a rare plate variety. I am currently waiting for a professional opinion on this stamp and you may see the price go up,or down. This stamp is a very unique item. Doe's anyone else have one exactly like this? |

Scarce and valuable are often not synonymous and you're entitled to ask any asking price you'd like. The reason you have a 100% feedback is because you technically have not lied about any sales...... yet. Morally is a matter of opinion.
The stamp will sit unsold so there will be no feedback to be left at that price so the feedback angle is a moot point.
