Nice Little Mixture Find

From a 20th century revenue mixture lot, I plucked this little sweetheart.

The staple holes at center detract a bit, but not having a perfin cancel makes it a nice find. Heck, even with a perfin cancel it would be a nice mixture find. Look it up.

Yeah, it was an ebay box lot of mostly reds and greens stuffed randomly in glassines, the majority perfin canceled as expected, but even some better ones amongst those. There was enough quantity there and enough variety as far as denominations from the pictures that I figured there might be some sleepers.

20th century reds and greens are an area that is woefully lacking in my collection, but it's a fairly ambitious undertaking, especially the greens. I don't think I'd ever attempt them mint; even used or perfin cancelled won't be easy (or cheap). So I figured a bulk lot would be a good starting point.

This one stamp will pay for the entire box lot, although I haven't decided whether to keep it or put it on ebay as a single. It's scarce enough (regardless of condition) that I might just want to hang onto it.

The condition ofg this one is quite nice actually. Reds and greens often have so many perf initials that there are more holes than stamp left. There can only be one complete collection of greens possible at a time anyway, since at least one is unique. Just completing 1944, 1945, and 1946 is pretty much impossible even if the catalog values didn't startle you.

Following up on this thread, I've been going through the rest of the mixture and have been finding various and sundry greens in the $5-50 range. Tonight in the last glassine of greens (I still have about 5 large glassines of reds to then go through), I found the stamp below.

This one is more along the lines of what Bart referred to with respect to the condition one normally finds these in. Another very tough spot to fill, even tougher than the first one actually.

Scott catalog value: $2,250 (in italics), $1,100 cut cancel, $900 perfin.

The perfin cancel has eroded a notch out of the top, but even still it's gotta be worth a few hundred bucks.

For a $150 mixture lot, this thing is turning out to be a veritable gold mine.
