I have several regummed stamps and have soaked a couple to remove the gum and they came out very nice with no evidence of ever being regummed.

Just wondering since a regummed stamp has the same value as a no gum stamp, what is the purpose of keeping it with the fake gum on it?

There is no harm in removing the gum, and the valuation should be the same, since the gum is fake. The only reasons I could think of would be:

(1) it is a hassle to soak and dry, so why bother. One reason to bother is that the presence of the gum may cause cracking/bending of the stamp or discoloration of the perforation tips, or some other unwanted affect on the stamp long-term, so to preserve the stamp it would be better to remove the fake gum.

(2) to deceive. The fake gum was added probably to deceive buyers, so if one knowing leaves fake gum on the stamp, they may be looking to deceive others.

I have a stamp that was clearly regummed, it was uneven, blotchy, it wouldn't have fooled anyone. But for $8 instead of $150, I bought it, washed it & it looks very nice indeed in my collection

Yea... I totally concur with you... I have several
beautiful stamps in my collection (I only collect
unused)-some of which I've purchased without gum,
and others which I've soaked, which were obvious
regums or partials, many of which would have been
near impossible for me to have obtained (for the
price-as in your case) if they were OG...

In general, most collectors who are willing to have non-OG stamps in their unused stamp collections, prefer no gum to regum. And I believe that is a very wise choice simply because regumming quite often hides small faults, so removing the gum is a great idea and can even slightly increase the value versus regum because it is now easy to see if the stamp has any faults with the fake gum removed, which is more desirable in the market place. So yes indeed, I agree it is a great idea to remove regumming.

re-post when it arrives... and
also include a backscan...

My image update on... US #210 XF Mint No Gum 2c Washington from 1883

http://www.ebay.com/itm/US-210-XF-M...em2ec9a292d7

Received today... she's a beauty... my new scans below...
seller's scan was not very accurate... if it had gum,
I'd almost be tempted to have it graded... would likely
be 'up there'...

Hmmm. Top right could be very slight toning. Bottom right, from "TS" to 3 perfs above it does look like a possible washed cancel. But beautiful centering is a certainty.
