I haven't been here in over a year.. popped in a couple times after this post but I spend my time mostly over on your sister site But earlier today I came over peeking for some information on some sheets I have, and was going to post a few questions after I got some pictures. So it's wild that today of all days, you find this post, Lou! But kind of cool, as well. I'd love to see your first-day cover if you have a scan or a picture!

I'm thankful this thread was resurrected. I would not have found it otherwise. I always enjoy the stories behind stamps and this is a fascinating one.

I agree - these are fantastic stories. We all need to keep alive in our memories those who served our great nation. These two gentlemen, pictured on this stamp, are remembered in a special way. I'll recall this thread each time I look at this stamp in my album!

Lou, welcome the SCF. Wonderful story, when I hear things like this it really make me think of the human side of the stamp. It also reminds me of the immeasurable debt of graditude we all owe the veterans of WWII.

Terrific post XSHIFT. Nice to see someone has an actual picture the stamp was engraved from.

Softstamp, wanted to let you know I have a copy of the stamp image on my facebook page as well. I would be interested in knowing some of the other names of the sailors. I also plan to post an image of my first day cover for folks to view.

Welcome to SCF Seeing the list of sailors would be really neat.

So would seeing the first day cover, Mr. Wood. I look forward to it!
