I am certainly not an expert on w/f issues, but this one is a first for me - can coils have selvage and plate #s attached? I have never seen it mentioned in Scott. Sadly, my "Expert's book" is at home so I can't reference it ...
My knee-jerk opinion is that this is a blatant forgery made from 409

The coils would have been pasted together. The plate number would be hidden under the tab. I suppose with very careful soaking or steaming someone could have removed the overlapping stamp. Or they may have taken the pair prior to making the coil. |

A 1200 DPI scan is needed, although 600 DPI might work if the quality of the .jpg file is reasonably high. Pressure ridges should be visible. Richard Kiusalas had a perf 8 1/2 machine but the coils he made had perforation holes aligned between rows. He took orders and would perforate an entire imperf roll to order.

Definitely need a better resolution scan. The perforation holes look a bit too clean and circular to me.
As mentioned before, this plate number in the attached selvage could be OK, since they pasted strips together, and someone may have carefully soaked it apart. |

Is it possible that the plate number happened to be at either end of a completed roll of 100, and therefore was never pasted up? |
