tbirdfour.... You have a typo on your 1c page.... Arrows were used to cut panes of 200 into panes of 50. |

Quote: You have a typo on your 1c page... DOH! Thanks for pointing that out. I will fix it at the first opportunity but I probably won't rescan the page. Now to get some more scans up. |

Kevin... speaking of Farley's...
(don't laugh too hard at the following)...
Of course you remember the craze in prices before the 1986 tax law changes...
Back in 1978, I wanted a 735 SS sheet of 6 really badly... couldn't find a decent price (anywhere) at any stamp dealer... they were all either close to $100 a pop (or more)...
On a shopping trip to Macy*s Herald Square, one day, I ventured into their stamp dept... (it was a concession, owned by 'I don't recall') and found one for "a great price"... $60 !!
I couldn't wait to get it home and mount it into my album...
Remember Zep and Columbian prices back then?

Tbirdfour, that is a beautiful set of pages. I do not know much about these stamps, and looking at your pages I noticed something odd! On the Arrow line blocks of the 3 cent stamp the upper block does not show an arrow at the end of the line. Is this normal, or is your block a variety?

Thanks all for the nice comments. It has been rather fun putting this little collection together. And I corrected the typo too Quote: On the Arrow line blocks of the 3 cent stamp the upper block does not show an arrow at the end of the line. Is this normal, or is your block a variety? Actually the tip of the arrow is there. It is just very difficult to see with the low quality scan. I have more pages to scan over the next few days and maybe I can scan it at a higher resolution if you want to see it. |

If I were ever to go for modern or commemoratives I have long felt that the Farleys would be a nice series. Not only is it attractive, but the wealth of variety in the treatment arising from the flap in their day makes them a great challenge. You seem to be on top of them, and I can't wait to see what you do with the gutter varieties.
You have nice groups of these. Just out of curiosity did you purchase most of these in groups, or did you have to piece this all together from loose strays? |
