Thanks again for all the kind comments. It keeps me inspired to continue to work on this collection.

Just out of curiosity did you purchase most of these in groups, or did you have to piece this all together from loose strays?

essayk, yes and yes. Some, such as the line pairs and blocks, that I will be scanning soon, as well as the arrow blocks were obtained as groups for the most part. The plate blocks and covers (also yet to be scanned) were usually singles.

I really got inspired to do this after reading a post by petrucellij...

His collection and presentation got me going even though I had acquired a few already. I actually started with the 1934 National Parks first which I may show under a seperate topic if there is any interest.

Here are the line pairs and blocks.

I also have cache covers if anyone wants to see them. They are all addressed to the same person which makes for a nice grouping.

And this may be a silly question but, the way I have defined horizontal and vertical on my pages seems correct to me. That is a vertical line pair has a vertical line separating them, while a horizontal pair has a horizontal line.

I have seen auction descriptions of these where the definition seems to relate to the relative position of the stamps themselves and not the lines. A vertical line pair is one where the stamps themselves are one above the other with the line between them.

Which is more correct? I feel that the terms 'vertical' and 'horizontal' refer to the lines and not the stamps.

The way you defined your "horizontal" and "vertical" line pairs is consistent with the way Scott defines & values them. Scott words it a little differently though, e.g. "Pair with vertical line between." Their way is more descriptive, but still results in some confusion among collectors.

I think Scott would do themselves a great favor by adding one more word to each of those descriptions, e.g. "Horizontal pair with vertical line between." I think that would eliminate any remaining confusion.

Since you further describe what you mean by "vertical line pair" on the page (and have the items mounted right there,) I think you're fine. However, if we were having a conversation and you told me you had "vertical line pairs" of the imperf Parks, I wouldn't know for sure what you had without asking a follow-up question. If you described them as I suggested in my second paragraph ("horizontal pairs with vertical lines,") there would be no doubt...

Nice collection. I too plan to get an album like you did. You are well on your way. One suggestion I have is. Since most of your stamps are Mint. After you complete your collection. I would replace the used stamps with Mint. Keep the used ones though just as an addition to your collection. I collect U.S. Mint but keep any used U.S. Stamps I come across until I can replace them with Mint.

Let me second what TinMan is suggesting. The expression "horizontal line pair" normally implies that the pair of stamps is arranged horizontally. You could redirect that thinking through the use of a dash, as "horizontal-line pair;" i.e. a pair with a horizontal line (presumably between). However, this still leaves open the possibility that the horizontal line is above or below a pair of stamps arranged horizontally as well. The Scott wording seems to cover more combinations with less confusion, and it's about as consistent as these things go.

I found two Platinum albums with blank pages and slip covers on the bay and I am using one for the 1934 National Parks and one for the 1935 series.
