Bought this on "Stamps 2 Go" for $4.00, looking for "A" Relief 1c 1857 top row stamps. I could tell that this came from the right side of Plate 8-- actually once you ID that it's a top row stamp, the guide dots on the upper right show that this stamp is either from Plates 5, 7 or 8-- one of the guide dots is actually cut off. Those 3 plates have 2 guide dots in the upper N.E. corner of the stamp. If the stamp came from plates 9 or 10, it would have one dot in the position where it currently is, and one dot at the top right of the actual design.

Could tell it's the right side of plate 8, because on 4R8 through 10R8 there is a dot on the shoulder above the letter "N", and this stamp shows that dot. If there is a dot above the "O" it's most probably plate 9-- 17 out of the 20 stamps from the top row of plate 9 have the dot above the "O".

Well I couldn't see the image well enough to know which stamp it was, and lucked out that it was 8R8...10R8 also is a double transfer. I paid $150 a few months ago for an 8R8 on cover, since it's one of the key stamps if you're trying to collect the top row of all of the type V stamps...little did I know I'd find one for $4.00...

And here is an image of just the top showing very well the D.T. in the letters of POSTAGE:

Thought I'd share-- Enjoy, Ray

Very, Very nice Ray. Glad you got it. I'm waiting to see the completed project. Let me know when you're done--if I don't see ya before that.

Nice find Ray. How close are you to getting the top row? I have a blind spot on those double transfers. Obvious to others but I just can't see it.

Ray, look at the edges of the letters in US POSTAGE
Most evident in the U, first S, P and probably best in the "O"

Doubling is quite obvious, very nice! I really need to buckle down and study the 1847 issues (and the 1851 and 1861).
