Now that I've obtained two slightly different versions of the same cancel, I'm more intrigued than ever.

Has anyone seen these before?

My best recommendation was to consult Dan, AKA "Revenuecollector". If you can't figure this out, we may be out of luck!

Clearly used by an organization of some real size, no one small would create something this ornate. It also has a very "school or college" (or publishing??)feel to it, which is heightened by the S.S.C. initials.

A quick Google search of coats of arms found similar ones associated with college fraternities and the Freemasons.

I'm guessing Standard Steel Car Company. Right era, big company, had a sense of style; but just a guess. (And they went by S.S.C.)

The two S's make me thing of a Saint S... College. There is the College of Saint Scholastica, founded in 1912 in Minnesota comes to mind (sometimes referred to as Saint Scholastica's College). I wouldn't be suprised if their logo has changed over the years (the one on their website does not match though).
