Trying to find out if anyone can recognize this cancel on this Scott #342. Could this be a known fancy cancel?

Does anyone have a better example of what this cancel looks like?

A scan maybe?

It might be a type of picture cancel but the term "fancy cancel" ended in the 1890's when the Post office department issued new regulations standardizing the form of cancellations. I know it's a thrown around term but the truth is that it is not a fancy cancel.

Double oval registry?

Try thinking outside the box for a change,

Tilt your head about 45° to the right, or
use your software to rotate the stamp's image
about 45° to the left...

It appears to be a wolve's head...

OMG, take a good hard look at the letters "GE" of postage and you can clearly see the "R" of registered.

I know very little about cancellations, I usually buy unused. Is what you're saying good? I am considering buying this stamp.

Be sure to view it carefully - it appears to have a horizontal bend along the bottom margin, and possibly some perforation bends/flaws.
