Just received today... on patriotic cover
but cropped out the stamp for this posting...

I know 64b would be wishful thinking... but
I wouldn't be able to tell 'laid paper' if
I was staring right at it...

The stamp is more pink than most 65's I have
seen...

If the pic color is accurate, it appears as if it is a pinkish shade, or close, so it *could* possibly be a rose pink 64b.

Thanks to both of you... I read through
the previous discussion, and I guess the
possibility exists for 64b, based upon
the color... I guess I'll have to rely
on that as the basis to send for a cert...

Do you have a year date on the cancel of the cover? #64, #64a and #64b were pretty much used up by Feb. 1862. That's not saying there couldn't be a later use, but less likely to be so. From my monitor, yours doesn't look like a #64b, certainly not a #64 or #64a--looks more like an 1863 shade. There are some shades printed/used in 1863 that do look pinkish. Again, that's strictly based on what I see on my monitor. If you do have a cancel date within the range of August 1861 to Feb. 1862 or shortly thereafter (or a dated docketing notation on the cover within that time frame), then you may want to get it certified if you feel its a pink or rose pink. There were also shades of rose, carmine, salmon, pinkish rose, etc. issued/used during that time period to be considered. Good luck with it, hope its a good one.

Tough call from the scan. It's not tied to the cover and I don't recall that cancel used from new haven. Maybe send for a cert.?

Randall, since it's a '61, it's at least rose pink, and could be pink...
if the color on my screen is accurate, it has a bluish tint, and looks more like my pinks than any of my rose pinks.....but I'd have to have it in hand and look at a 1200 dpi scan to know for sure.

Nice stamp and cover and definitely should be certed.....Thanks, Ray

Hi, Ray... thank you kindly for your input, as well...

I'm still working on getting a 1200dpi (or better) scanner...
this old flatbed really needs to retire...

I've got a "care package" put aside for Bill Weiss...
now, I just need to find the time to send...

~~~ Liking my cover more each day (smiling) ~~~
More later...
