To coincide with my earlier post regarding my 1935 National Parks collection, https://goscf.com/t/38878, I thought I would start to share my 1934 collection. This collection actually started first. Whereas the 1935 collection is organized by stamp type, that is mint singles, used singles, mint blocks, used blocks, etc., this collection is organized by denomination. I have tried to gather at least a mint and used single, a mint and used block of four, a couple of plate blocks with different numbers, and a cover. Each section starts with a poster print put out by the USPS in 1972.... Here are the first few pages... I will try and get some more pages scanned in the coming days.

It is always interesting to see a collector expand on any given topic.

Okay ... now a question for Tbirdfour (or anyone else with postmark knowledge)! The last album page scan had a double oval postmark from Gloucester, Mass. What are the initials in the center of that postmark and what do they represent? Typically a postmark like that is seen on registered or insured mail, but the initials in the center are usually "REG" or something similar. In this case, it looks like the initials are either "LAU"(?) or "LAL"(?). Perhaps initials of a post office clerk or postmaster? I enlarged the postmark, rotated it and post it below in the event anyone can help identify it: |

It seems the most plausible, doesn't it? In fact, that post office station is still around today. But what are the initials in the central part of the postmark supposed to read "LAN"(?) or "LAS" (as in Lanesville Station)?

Here is a close up of the cancel with a white background. It looks like LAN to me. Probably Lanesville? My 2c Grand Canyon block has the same post mark. |

Thanks for the close-up scan. Now that I can clearly see the letters "LAN" it is most definitely Gloucester (Lanesville Station), MA. Incidentally, here's a photo of what the post office looks like today: |

The white balls in post above picture of the P.O. That surely isn't Perforations. They look like rows of Golf Balls. |
