the light vertical indentations on the back mean it came out of a stamp dispensing machine, cut by the machine not scissors

chasa is correct ! As usual. They are referred to as gripper marks and add a slight premium to the stamp value.

Very common to be miscut by the machine. Schermack machines were capable of processing 250 stamps per minute.
