At some time in the past, I acquired a copy of a Confederate Provisional Baton Rouge issue, SC 11X2a, the J. McCormick version. It is described in Scott as green and carmine. My copy is missing the green color and I assumed it is either a printing error or a press proof and so identified it in my album. It is unused.
Now I want to see if the Forum has any experience with this item. Perhaps there are other copies out there or it is a forgery or reprint. I thought perhaps the green color had been bleached out but my experience has been that greens are not so susceptible, that reds and blues are more likely to fade.
I love Confederate stamps, but sadly have no experience with the provisionals. I would love to see an image of yours, if you can post a scan. Please, please, please, please, please!?
James: My scanner is out of order. The Scott Specialized for Classic stamps has a good color reproduction or see the web site that Terry identified above.
Because my copy has only one color, the carmine, it's either a printing error, a press proof of the carmine, printer's waste or an incomplete or inept forgery. I suspect the last, because the price was so low.
