Just got finish with the article in the APS magazine . The story is about the two missing Inverted Jennies authored by Ken Lawrence . First who was he addressing ? What was he offering ? Surely not the owners ,offering $10,000 for a $250,000 stamp ----really ! By the way does that come with a free ride to the nearest F.B.I. office and a free Proctology exam. Who in their right mind wants that !THAT IS NOT THE WAY TO GET STOLEN PROPERTY RETURNED .

I don't know where or when they were stolen, but wasn't it some time ago? Wouldn't the Statute of Limitations be up by now? If they were stolen by a non collector and way too hot to sell they're long gone. If a collector bought them knowing they were stolen, no way they come forward now and give up the stamp. Maybe on their deathbed...

There is only one thing here full of stupidity LOL! Ken Lawrence is one of the most respected scholars/authors of philatelic articles and I would trust his judgement over the crude remarks posted above anytime |

ALRIGHT now I'm ticked off ............Here is the deal .......I will offer $25,000 in cash for each of the Jennies with no questions asked , that is a heck of a better deal than Ken wrote about, now that he told everybody about the APS running to the F.B.I. as soon as someone comes forward .This offers the holders of the Jennies a way to sell them at a profit and their family name would not appear on the front page of the local paper and be associated with criminals .Sure I'll buy them with a whole group of lawyers that will approach the APS with a offer they can't refuse.
The deal will be that half the current sale price will be split 50/50 with me . Let me put it this way they got nothing right now and no hopes of having anything .If they work with me they get $100,000 or $150,000 per stamp .........With me they could run to the F.B.I. or their lawyers and still get nothing. As I said in the first posting ,that was stupid to insult the stamp holder with $10,000 reward and them{APS} getting $250,000 free and clear .Then telling everybody your going to the police ,and your name is going to be pastured in the newspapers is not smart way to get stolen items ...........trust me if you want to get something back that was stolen you don't go to a philatelic writer of stories and a researcher ,you get someone that knows the underbelly of the Chicago shadow world of dealing with stolen goods . |

You seriously think the APS will acquiesce to your extortion and buy the stolen stamps as you described if they're ever recovered? I'm actually speechless ... |

Isn't this how Insurance companies recovered stolen goods? Or is that just the stuff of fiction and the movies?

I wonder if someone knows something. Those Jenny's were stolen many years ago, why suddenly do this now? |

Terry, the APS would only ever act as described in Ken Lawrence's article.

I was referring to the offer of $10,000 for the return/recovery of the stamps.

I read the article and I believe the 10,000 dollars was a reward offered for the recovery of the stamp. As I understood the article, the APS has legal ownership of the stolen stamp. Certainly the 10,000 is NOT an offer to buy the stamp. That is absurd. |

Just a thought, Wouldn't it suck to have these in your collection and never be able to tell anyone? I'm almost positive that these stamps no longer exist. These are just too high profile, too much money and the potential for mega-prosecution for anyone to step forward. |

I believe they are in someone's collection. In fact if this happened in 1955, they have probably passed thru several collections by now. Push will come to shove when someone's heirs unknowingly try to sell them. They are so well known and identified, they will be confiscated and returned to the rightful owner. It may be an insurance company at this point. |

The author of the article did us all a favor by recording all of the facts of this high profile theft case, many which I was previously unaware of. I found it to be a very well researched and presented article. The $10,000. is the reward that was offered many years ago for information leading to the return of one of the stolen stamps. My gut reaction is that the society should increase the size of that reward.
My guess is that the stamps still exist. I can't imagine someone knowingly destroying them. They would, I would guess, try to alter them to make ID more difficult, rather than destroy them. |

Floortrader: The $10,000 was offered 25 years ago, not today. Ken Lawrence is one of the great contemporary philatelic writers in the US and perhaps the world. He has done a great service by reviewing this unsolved mystery.
