I found the article fascinating, and feel the time is right to reinvigorate efforts to find the stolen copies. The recent release of the USPS invert & "unvert" souvenir sheets got this stamp back in the news, and people may be recalling stories told, or rumors of the existence of a "hidden invert" from one of their deceased relatives.
It will be interesting to see what is actually offered, and what conditions are placed on the reward. If you have it and they offer $25,000 and a "no questions asked, no prosecution" guarantee if returned, would you return it? If they offer something less for information that leads to the recovery, would you say something, even if you didn't actually have it or know precisely where it was? I agree with Bill W. that the stamps almost certainly still exist somewhere, and I bet people out there know where they are...sweetening the pot a little right now may very well lead to their return.
Again, a fascinating article IMO. Always well-researched and well-written when the author is Ken Lawrence! |

SRAILKB------I agree with all the postings above about Ken being a excellent researcher and he is a good writer . But as you say ,a reasonable offer has to be made to get the holder or holders looking and thinking what is in their best interest at this point . My offer stands ------$25,000 cash per Jenny ,no questions asked ,no F.B.I. and no negative press. Somebody got them and I am trying to figure out what they want to release them . |

I think it would have been better stated that the reward policy by the APS might be full of stupidity, not the article itself? |

floortrader, the problem with your counteroffer is that you'll pay the current holder the $25,000, then if anyone ever catches you, or you try to cut a deal with APRL, or you show it or even mention it to the wrong person, or heaven forbid you ever try to sell it, you'll end up with nothing. APRL will take the stamp from you because you're not the rightful owner. You won't be reimbursed a penny.
I think their reward offer (obviously higher than $10,000) will be more than reasonable - it may not work, but it's more than reasonable. It's obviously better than the alternative ("absolutely nothing") for whoever currently holds it...
Some people do have a conscience, and with the original crooks likely gone (or very old,) my belief is that the missing stamps will eventually surface (even without the reward.) However, if APRL wants to hasten the process, say because they're in need of immediate funds, then a reward (and immediate resale, for that 6-figure payday) is a much better option. |

I think it all makes good publicity for a hobby that sorely need it. Be nice if some of the news networks would pick it up and run with it. Adds a whole new meaning to "The Real McCoy" |

I'm sure some of you are more in touch with international philately than I. What is the likelihood that they are outside the US? Is there much international interest in them such that a well heeled foreigner might pick them up to have and to hold or even to show? |

The reference to George Amick's book Jenny is important; it's a great book for those who have not read it. I still can't help wondering whether someone knows something. |

Revcollector;
I agree with you. I do not think it was a co-incidence that this article just happened to be published now. The proximity to the Airpost-themed show at APS in just two weeks was surely one reason for the timing. But perhaps a lead could have been another reason.......... |

Great article . Have to agree that even back in the day not knowing who or having any paperwork behind the couple changing hands is suspicious. Sort of doubt the actual crime will be solved but someone has those stamps somewhere. Reality is that even insanely high profile/priced items have buyers even if stolen. Stolen Artwork worth millions changes hands as do many items. Some just want what they can't legitametly have even if they can't show it off. However at some point these things have to come to light . |

That was a good article. If the point was to raise the issue and let folks know who actually owns the stamp then it did the job. There was no offer of a reward in the article. |

Linn's Stamp News "breaking news" story: Quote: Donald Sundman of Mystic Stamp Co. is offering...$50,000 apiece, or $100,000 total, is for the return of two Inverted Jenny (United States Scott C3a). It goes on to say that: Quote: (APRL President Roger) Brody said the APRL would not seek prosecution for the original theft or for anyone's subsequent possession of the stolen stamps, and the APRL has also received assurances from its contacts at the FBI that the Bureau is unlikely to take up the case again after six decades.
