I am back into the hobby after decades of being away. Years ago (I'm talking 40-50), I seem to recall that the post office offered a subscription service whereby it would automatically would send every new stamp to the subscriber. Does that service still exist?
Yes, the service still exists. Today, it's called the "Standing Order Program". You can choose from 13 different categories, blocks of 4 or 10 or full panes, as well as booklets, souvenir sheets, strips of 25, postal stationery, etc., etc. Shipments come about 6 to 9 times per year and you can prepay (with advanced deposit) or have them automatically charged to a credit card on file.
Due to all of the program options, there is no on-line listing that I know of. In order to initiate such a subscription order, you'll need to call USPS Stamp Fulfillment Services at 1-800-STAMP-24 (1-800-782-6724).
Actually, I should have mentioned that the information recited above was taken from an insert contained in the latest issue (3Q, 2014) of USA Philatelic. It gives no other particulars other than to call the phone number listed to set up a standing order, should that be what you want.
I called 1-800-782-6724 hoping to subscribe to the "Standing Order Program." The operator told me that only the Kansas office processes subscriptions to this program. The operator recommended that I call between 8:15 AM to 1:00 PM (Central Daylight/Standard Time) to avoid long holds on the phone.
