The temptation is to say Caterson, Brotz, a well known company but according to the Beaumont book this is an impossibility based on time. So the answer is that no one knew in 1972, and I have not heard of anyone adding to that information.

The two cancels in the Beaumont book were from 1865, so this is a different date than the ones known when the book was published.

I believe "C.B." refers to Charles Bartlet, which the article at this link says was a pseudonym used by Samuel Hart:
