Mystic Sells Their Inverted Jenny Plate Block For $4.8 Mil+

Linn's Stamp News is reporting this morning that Donald Sundman of Mystic Stamp Company has just sold their original Inverted Jenny Plate Block (Scott C3a) to an anonymous buyer for an amount "north of $4.8 million dollars"!

Cool! Nice to see headlines like that. That 1 cent z-grill turned into a great investment for Mystic. They parlayed a $935K purchase 16 years go into about $5 million today. Just about any investor in any field would be ecstatic with a return like that.

It's a great money deal for Mystic. I just wonder how it affects their marketing. The inverted Jenny plate block was plastered over every piece of material they had. I am sure $5 mil. in the bank will allow them to think or something or get another philatelic rarity.

Another philatelic rarity? What?
They have been using what are arguably the two most famous US rarities as advertising for the last 20 years. Both are unique and also about as famous as it gets in US stamps. Anything they use now will almost certainly be a step down from these two items unless they decide to buy one of the few major postal history items that might be considered as equals.

Maybe next week Mystic will reveal they were the buyer of the Penny Magenta.

Holey smokes that's a lot of loot! If I had that much money those stamp wouldn't even be on my radar. Just after my "Lambo" and new house I might consider the $1.00 & $2.00 small banknotes! lol I'm stingy I know...ha-ha! In all seriousness it's refreshing to see a good headline for stamp collectors and these things aren't unobtainable and.or just selfishly locked away never to be seen until some old fellow dies...
