Nice find! I'd have pounced all over that one. Yes, the one on ebay is one I have for sale, and as mentioned above it is priced a bit high in anticipation of offers/bargaining. I'm not really in a rush to sell it, so I don't mind if it sits there unsold. |

It should be noted that the cancel in that auction 10 years ago was part of a serious revenue sale with many great rarities in a wide variety of revenues. Everyone who buys revenues was involved, so prices were strong. And it was a good strike on a very fine stamp. I would not call that cancel rare, but it is scarce. It is very popular. I have probably seen 20-25 of them over the years; I would think that there are possibly a couple of hundred around, but it is always difficult to judge these things. |

Its a beautifull cancel, and easy to understand why it's popular. Quite a clever advertizment for Poland's, and I would think as such it would have been used often. |

kevin504, stamps like this (with trimmed perfs) are tougher to run the test on (alignment more difficult,) however I feel reasonably confident that revcollector is correct and it's just trimmed, not reperfed. The "Srail test" images are below. IMO, the perf match on both stamps is within the acceptable range for genuine perfs. Perf pins will break, bend, wear, etc. A couple holes out of alignment or with odd shapes doesn't necessarily equal reperf. |

BTW, not sure if anyone has done a comprehensive study of these, but as I did the "Srail test" I did notice some design differences in the cancel itself, e.g. the shape of the "A" in POLANO'S, the apostrophe, etc. They are very similar in many respects, but there are also differences indicating wear and/or work during the course of its use... |

A beauty if genuine. Did you get it certified? Think the perfs at left look reperfed though not sure about the ones at the bottom. |

The bottom stamp posted by Ken Srail has a double transfer at the top of the word "proprietary". Particularly noticeable in the first r and priet. |

Egads! Talk about missing the forest for the trees...
Neither Eric nor I ever spotted the DT; we were too focused on the cancel. I should have kept this one.
Oh well, you win some and you lose some. The value is in the cancel anyway. |

To some degree the value is in whatever the collector wants it to be. The financial value is certainly in the cancel, but as a DT collector I would much rather have the example with one, all things being equal. |

Hey, congratulations, Southpaw! What a cool find! I really like the more elaborate handstamp cancels like the Poland's one.
Did the seller know what he had? Did he have other revenues or cancels in the mix? |

I was going to say that I'm pretty sure one of our resident revenue collectors has this cancellation as I believe I have seen it pop up here before. Beautiful find. |

DenimDan, he had a whole stockbook of revenues, but precious few printed cancels. He hasnt been there the last two meetings, but I hope to go through the stockbook again. |
