In my opinion I believe it was probably just exposed to chemicals when being soaked off the cover or just the atmosphere in general. Like exposure to sunlight for a long period of time. Red isn't a very "stable" color and tends to fade and stuff like that. It's most likely just a "changeling" but it's neat to look at!

EDIT:

I added one of my own "changelings" for an example



Now an 8˘ "Prexie" should be an olive bister type color not brown and orange!

I agree with I_Love_Stamps, it looks like it's color has been changed by a chemical process. This one's paper is also much whiter than your other two.

Regardless, it is cool looking.
