When I see a cover like that, I am always amazed at the addresses. So simple. Just a name and the city/state. It is a reminder of how much less populated the US was in the 19th century.

I've never seen one with margins that big! Very nice... and on cover, too.

I wonder which position on the pane that stamp came from?

Whatabeaut...And even better and more amazing to contemplate is the fact that the city here in this simple address is Boston, Mass. One has to wonder if this would have reached a single citizen as opposed to an entity.

A JUMBO Scott #158, 3c green Washington, however it is not as exquisitely centered as your #213.

Jumbo stamps: stamps with wide margins; should have even margins on all sides; also referred to as Boardwalk Margins.

I have wondered why there are stamps with jumbo margins. Did the space between the stamps on the printing plate change? I guess what I am asking is why is there the variation between stamps with jumbo margins and those that don't have wide margins. Were plates used for printing that different?

A shift in the position of the perforating machine would not lead to 4 jumbo margins. Two maybe, but not four.
