Picked up this nice 1 cent Columbian, out of the quarter box.

The cover is a bit tattered, but the stamps centering is just fine.

Great Bargain!

The history of Lakewood, The Laurel House and Laurel-in-the-Pines is described in The Romantic Laurel House.

Gayety out at Lakewood Feb. 24, 1895 is a NY Times article (pdf format) which mentions a high society affair with Miss Florence Scofield (possible relation to Mrs. H. Scofield) as a recent arrival at Laurel House.
