I just registered and would like to ask a question. I retired from the Postal Service. I collected some stamps from '73 to the early '80s.
I bought some stamp albums, sheets, 1st day covers and hard cover books from my sister-in-law.
I have looked up most of them online. I could not find any info on 2 albums.
The are The 50 greatest events in American History, volume 1 & 2.
They have 50 sleeves with 2 panels in each sleeve and 2 to 3 stamps on each page with a description about the event the stamps depict.
I have found some albums but only with about 12 pages. I haven't seen any full albums for sale. I think they were bought in the mid '90s but not sure if they were bought with all the pages already in them.
Any information about them would be appreciated.
I am not looking to sell them, but would like to know the value.
Thanks for any help.

expeditor, I cannot help you on these albums, but, where did you work? I worked in the Yakima & Portland PO, from '62 - 76.

Theron.

Ah, I see these came from the Postal Commemorative Society. I mean no disrespect, but most collectors consider those items as contrived and of minimal value. I saw one volume listed for sale and they look nice, but, the stamps are not rare. Now if someone disagrees with me, I am sure they will let us know.

I don't mean to sound negative, stamp collecting is a wonderful hobby. What other material do you have? Pictures are always good . . .

regards, Theron.

Thanks for the info. I didn't think they were worth a lot. My brother-in-law bought them, mostly for the history.
I worked at the Nashville, Tn. PO from '73 til '09.
The other stamps I got were 1st. day covers, united nations, pow&mia, Richard Nixon, Bessie Coleman, James K.Polk and a few others.
A 20 stamp sheet of Marilyn Monroe cancelled Universal City, Ca. and Universal Studios logo. Some books, Official tributes to native Americans, Historic U.S. stamps honoring our 50 states, and Legends of the West.
A sheet of .32 James K. Polk and .29 Thomas Jefferson.
A few pages of Chinese New Year, Texas and Florida statehood, and Antique Autos.
I don't have any photos, but I will try to post some later. In the middle of Christmas decorating outside for now.
Thanks again.

Welcome expeditor,

You should check the Legends of the West sheet you have to see if its the error. Just for a quick reference, you can check out this link: http://www.kenmorestamp.com/us-recalled-legends

Maybe you'll get lucky!

I'm sure you'll find lots of help here.

I read about the error sheet of Legends of the West, mine is the correct one.
I had two Marilyn Monroe sheets, one a mint sheet and the other cancelled 1st day cover, Universal City, Ca. I gave my nephew the mint sheet, didn't know if one was worth more than the other. It really didn't matter to me. He just wanted one of them to frame.
I bought commemorative sets for about 10 years and then I bought what stamps I liked, either sheets or blocks. I also bought quite a few line pairs from a friend that serviced the automated stamp machines. He would find some and put money in the machine and then sell them to me.
I don't buy things as an investment but just things I like. I have pocket knives, matchbox cars and (don't laugh) specialty Mr. Potato Heads. I have 10 now.
Thanks for the links and more info.

So, expeditor, I am curious, when the USPS released the recent $2 upside down (inverted) Jenny stamp, did you rush and and buy some? There was lots of discussion about that on this board.

regards, Theron.

No I didn't buy any. I haven't bought any stamps from the PO for a while. I would check the Postal Bulletin when I was working and if I saw a new release I would buy some. I don't keep up with new stamps since I retired. I have seen a lot stamps on different forums and would like to look for some sheets that I like. Probably wait until after Christmas start looking.
