Since I am a revenue stamp collector, I am on the lookout for "freak" revenues, always keeping one eye peeled for especially nice examples among the Civil War era tax stamps.

Normal $3 Manifest (Scott #R86c)

Misperf $3 Manifest - 2 extra vertical rows of perforations

Misperf $3 Manifest - 3 extra vertical rows of perforations, with some blind perfs

$3 Manifest "George with a Splitting Headache"
Pre-printing paper fold caused a break in the design.

$3 Manifest "Scarface" George Washington.
Scratch on the printing plate put a streak on George Washington's face.

Does anyone else have any errors, freaks or oddities? Please post them here!

Hello everyone....

One of my EFO's.

Here is a pre-printing paper fold on a R60a 50c Original Process Civil War revenue stamp used in 1863, along with a normal stamp for comparison.

That appears to be a type of perfin. Perforated initials (or "perfins") were punched on stamps by companies as a security measure to prevent employees from pilfering stamps. The very simple pattern is unusual.

Jason, I once had an aquaintance that only collected perfins. It was a really unique and interesting collection to look at. The hardest part was trying to ID the company or group the perfin belonged to. As I remember it, a large portion of his collection was unidentified.

I just noticed that there are some "blind" (not completely punched through) perfin holes on the Queen's neck. So it really is a "T."

Thanks for sharing some fascinating errors! Would love to see some more! Had I not started stamp collecting and came across one of those, like the Robert Frost stamp, I probably would have thrown it away!
