Based on the 1922 date, would this be a Scott 492?

You cannot tell conclusively without removing the stamp and checking for a watermark. However, it is 99.5% likely to be the 492.

It's 100% certain it's a 492... it's a Type III... see the 3 vertical lines in the right ribbon...

Color, slightly over-inking appearance (seen on a lot of #492s), year date of cancel etc. etc. all point strongly to #492. #455 is only a remote possibility at best.

Yes, I agree Type III. There isn't a flat plate type III horizontal coil. #455 and #492 are both Type III and rotary press. #455 has a single line watermark. #492 has no watermark. The 2 cent is the most demonic of the Washington/Franklins. Hope I got this right.

You could soak it off, check the watermark then glue it back on?

Yeah...well...just...thinking out of the box...
