I was going through a box of stuff my stepmother inherited and found this old album.

There were a few old post cards in it. There were some loose when I turned it over it showed a spot where the person had applied the adhesive. The postmark was from 1907.

There are some beautiful post cards, I think a ball dance cards, some old programs from events, and even some photos.

The paper most of these are mounted on is brittle from age. These also seem to have one spot of glue holding them in place (in the center).

Any suggestions? What to do?

-MV

You need to separate things that have been stored a long time very carefully. Me - I use the gentle / gentle method of separation. I sometimes use water - sparingly. And with the glue and scotch tape I might use Gunk Be Gone - again sparingly. A lot of devices - whether physical or chemical - will leave a footprint so you have to decide what you are prepared to live with.

I would think that, after you get everything separated, you would want to store these, one-by-one, in the stiff clear sleeves mostly often used for banknotes.

Here is an example:

Here's one of the loose post cards. I asked my friends on FB and one suggested trying dental floss. I'll try that this afternoon.

While not a postcard this is one of the many pictures that came from the same album. I thought it was neat because you can see the word "Deere" on the back of the machine.

Postmark is Tarkio, MO. This looks like a real picture but it's a postcard
