Hello, I'm just trying to id this Scott 73. It looks darker on the right side and the guide says something about a double transfer, but not sure what that means.

That scan is too dark and too small to realy make a 100% judgement, but I don't see anything that resembles a double transfer (which is the doubling of some part of the design. In the old days, they were called "shifts"). And they should not be confused with a double impression - which is that the entire design or a big part of it, is doubled.

It is hard to tell by the scan, but it looks like the stamp is starting or did start foxing (browning). If that is the case, it could be the cause of the darker side.

Double transfers on Scott #73 are mostly visible in the top label and numerals or the bottom lettering as extra lines caused by the design being pressed into the printing plate more than once. Here's a modest example (see the extra lines in the word "POSTAGE"):

And here's the granddaddy of all #73 double transfers, the so-called "Atherton shift":

Thanks, gentlemen, for all the comments. Here's a better scan (I think). I think my scanner only goes up to 600dpi.

If so then you may benifit from google's Picasa 3. Like you, my scanner's manufacturer's web based software for my 3 in 1 unit would only set up the scanner at 600 dpi. After downloading Picasa 3, I found that Picasa's scanning software set up my scanner at 1200 dpi.
