An Impressive Collection. What To Do With It?

Good evening one and all,

My name is David, I'm 75 and really do know better than to volunteer and I will probably be bothering most of the folks here for some time with dumb questions, stupid remarks and just plain boring topics that you've probably responded to many hundreds of times. My apologies, in advance.

Part of the problem I have is that I offered to assist (read that as 'do it') in liquidating a rather large stamp collection. It starts out with stampless letters (an envelope from Daniel Webster to Miss Goodrich), goes through the Blood penny posts to the beginnings of the postal service, CSA, etc., up until about 1970. The gentleman who did the collection was ODC and knowledgeable. Of course, this is just the US collection.

And, all I have to do is learn all about stamps so I can speak intelligently and knowledgeably so I can help the family successfully dispose of the collection and have happy and content new owners.

So, if you see me wondering around with a forlorn look, yes, I'm lost, but you can say 'hello' - I sometimes bark, but seldom bite.

If you have the ability to post images, I can promise you that everyone likes to see stamps.

I'm afraid that the non-US collectors aren't off the hook. Got a camera and scanner (just have to get up to speed on the photo requirements/limitations). And, one of the smaller volumes that I saw was on the Isle of Man - and it looked fairly thorough. But, it was overshadowed by the other volumes of world stamps. Like I said, I REALLY do know better than to volunteer. It must have been temp. insanity. However, thank you for the welcome

Welcome and it sounds like quite a nice collection you stumbled into! As far as images are concerned, Are you familiar with photobucket or any other image hosting type sites? You upload the photos (we like good clear scans) to their site and grab the [IMG] "tag" and past it into the message body. when you preview or post it will show up. Looking forward to seeing those covers and early stamps! Again Welcome!
