Gather round your country's flag,
Men of the South, the hour has come--
None may falter, none may lag--
March to the sound of the fife and drum.

This Confederate patriotic cover was sent on Jan 5 [1862] from Richmond, Virginia to
Newtown Stephensburg, Virginia. The flag shown is an eleven star version of the first
official flag of the Confederacy, called the "Stars and Bars." It is franked with a CSA
Scott #2a 10c light blue Thomas Jefferson stamp.

The cover is cataloged in Dietz as type F11-16.

Great cover Tom

Along with the great stamp, the writing is absolutely beautiful.

Thanks Dianne! This is the only Confederate patriotic cover I have. They are much scarcer than Union patriotics.
