Hello From The Pacific Northwest, Specifically...seattle

My interest in stamps began when I was about 8 years old by helping my Great Grandfather soak and sort stamps. I had some brief periods of inactivity when I was stationed overseas while serving in the Air Force.

My primary area of focus is the US and possessions & territories; especially the Ryukyus where I was stationed for several years. My Ryukyu mint collection is complete except for revenues and postal cards. I also have over 300 different Ryukyu FDCs, but there are still some variations missing from my FDC collection. I also collect Germany pre-1946, and recently started Vietnam.

I am also happy that my 13 year old daughter shows some interest in the hobby; especially in topical stamps that depict fairy tales and folk lore.

Anyway, I look forward to talking with others who enjoy the hobby and the pursuit of finding missing stamps.

Canada has issued an interesting series on folk tales that you might want to look at. I believe I have copies of those stamps in mint if you are interested.

BjRollison to SCF all the way from Northern Michigan. Glad to have you join in with us. I too served in the U.S.A.F. and was stationed at Kadena Air Base for 18 months. I have thought about starting to collect Ryukyu singles but haven't started yet. Maybe next year.Is there an album for Okinawa stamps? When you get a chance post a scan of some of your collection.

Hi TinMan, I was on "The Rock" for many years, and returned there as a civilian for a few years after a tour in the first sandbox debacle.

Both Scott and Palo provide albums for the Ryukyus. I haven't invested in a Palo album (I am still considering buying 2 for my North and South Vietnam collections which need to escape from the card files) so I can't tell you anything about them. My Ryukyu Scott album was printed in 1982 (the year before I first set foot on "The Rock"). It is the old 2 post binding. I think the newer 3-ring Scott albums are better as they allow the pages to lay flat.

BjRollison, Thanks for the link on the stamps. The Ryukyus stamps are beautiful. I was there at Kadena from September 1967 -March 1969/ I had a Canadian Scott two post Album and I made it into a three post and bought Binders at Walmarts. Much better.
