I've always collected old post cards and have just recently started investigating the stamps. It is quite confusing and I thought this forum would be helpful to me.
Might suggest you go to library and have a look at their holdings in stamp magazines (assuming they carry such) - will give you an idea of countries, topics, things to look for and collect.
Tin there are regular stamp shows in Tampa and in New Port Richey. Among the best 2 stamp shows annually are the Florex show every December in Orlando, and the ASDA show in Sarasota this is usually held during the first weekend every February. The next show in Tampa is actually this weekend.
